Thanks to everyone who has prayed for Haiti and contributed to the Haiti Relief Fund in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. So far, FBA members have given more than $52,000 towards this effort. God is at work in the midst of the crisis, and it has been encouraging to hear first-hand reports from our missionaries on the ground. Here are a few snapshots from Edner Jeanty, serving with CrossWorld in Port-au-Prince:
- “I am amazed by the story of a young man rescued after 27 days under the rubble. Evans Monsigrace was found alive but very dehydrated. He was buried alive under the city market that fell on him while he was selling rice. He is now being cared for at one of the hospitals in Port-au-Prince.”

- “I attended a blessed church service on Valentine’s Day. We had 196 in attendance at Beree, and over 20 of them were first-time visitors. Many responded positively to the sermon. We are still meeting outside in the parking lot. I was happy with the nice job the young people did in setting up the tarps.”
- “I had a meeting recently with the Haiti Orphan Relief Team. I shared how I am concerned about the great number of new orphans that our communities suddenly need to account for. If more than 212,000 people perished (official numbers), one can assume that 100,000 were women. If maybe half of them were mothers, we can estimate there are now 40,000 to 100,000 new orphans throughout the country. This is a challenge for 'pure religion' (James 1:27 ).”
- “I have heard testimonies of large numbers turning to Christ or showing interest in the Gospel. One church had 20 decisions for Christ over the three days of prayer and fasting. One new convert is a former witchdoctor. Another church organized an evangelistic campaign where over 300 trusted in Christ. There is definitely a great openness to spiritual matters.”
Please continue to keep Edner and the other missionaries in your prayers as they minister to the Haitians in their time of need. |
