Winter 2012 sessions:

LEARN

Starting Point - The Call to Follow Christ

(Pastor David Cook) Room 1360

Are you unsure of where to begin your journey of spiritual growth? You are invited to a vibrant class that will walk you through the steps of how to grow in your relationship with the Lord. In Starting Point, you will discover the skills to develop your intimacy with God. The Lord longs to be the number one priority of your life! Whether you are new in your faith, or rededicating your life to the Lord, you will find the tools for the journey here.

How to Study Your Bible
(Fred Overton) Room 2410

This class is based on a seminar by Fred Overton titled "Rightly Dividing the Word: How to Study and Interpret the Scriptures." The seminar delves into the various methods of Bible Study for the teacher and the student which will enable them to "dig deeper" into the truths of God's Word and, in doing so, make it a more active part of their daily lives.

Discovering your Freedom in Christ – a study in Galatians
(Hal Watkins) Room 2620

Many born-again Christians, having accepted Christ as their Savior through faith alone, then attempt to live the Christian life by keeping a set of self-imposed rules and regulations. In attempting to please God in this way, they instead find themselves on an exhausting treadmill of performance-based living with no sense of victory. Through an in-depth study of the book of Galatians and other Scriptures, this class will show you how to be set free from the bondage of legalism into the glorious freedom we have in Christ. Learn how walking in the Spirit enables us to become the Godly man or woman the Lord wants us to be.

Shattered Dreams—From Bethlehem to Moab and back, from despair to joy!
(Dr. Benjamin Cocar) Room 2430

There are only two books in the Bible that have the name of a woman, Ruth and Esther. These two young ladies go in opposite directions! Esther left Israel for Babylon, and Ruth left Moab for Israel. Both followed and obeyed, and God used both in His great plan. We will study Ruth's book, and will follow the journey of Naomi from the house of bread to the cursed Moab. We will analyze each step into the pit and out of it. How many of our dreams were shattered only to see a brighter Sun rising upon our skies? "Shattered dreams are never random. They are always a piece in a larger puzzle, a chapter in a larger story," wrote Larry Crabb. Ruth's little book is a piece in God's grandiose plan of Redemption.

"Dear Lord, Which __________ Should I....?"
(Tim Skinner) Room 2420

This course addresses many of the practical questions that Christians ask in their Christian life. These are important questions that address church membership, holy days, our relationship to the Old Testament, food and diet, the will of God, and even which Bible to use! Topics include:

· * Which Testament (the Old or the New) should I live under?

· * Which church should I attend?

· * Which day should I observe as holy?

· * Which foods should I eat, or not eat?

· * Which direction should I go?

Sincere believers still want to know the will of God in these areas. In this study, you will get wisdom from the Word in everyday matters of the Christian life.

Not by Sight! Part 2
(Dr. Scott Downing) Room 2440

In This past session of our Engage class: Not By Sight we have seen how the believers of old times like Able, Enoch, Noah and Abraham walked by faith and not by sight. Uncertainty and confusion appear to be the distinctive marks of life in the world today. The world tells me only to trust what I can see and can figure out by my own reason. Yet, the Bible assures me that I can find direction, encouragement and purpose even when many things I see are falling apart. In the darkest of times I see that the Bible tells me a special secret; I can truly walk with daily hope and expectation: "For we walk by faith, not by sight!" (2 Corinthians 4:7) This is the only way for us to live with a real assurance in a world with so many uncertainties. Take an in-depth look at the great men and women of faith in the Bible. We will see how God brought them through problems, shortcomings, predicaments and even doubts much like we experience today. Please join me again for this winter session of Engage as we continue to discover together how to walk by faith.

LOVE

Boundaries with Kids
(Don Walker) Room 2610

Do you ever wonder how you can build your child's character? We will be examining Cloud and Townsend's book Boundaries with Kids. "Boundaries With Kids helps grown-ups teach children how to become stewards of their lives, behavior, and values by establishing healthy boundaries with them. As parents learn to set appropriate boundaries and consequences with children, the kids begin developing: ownership of their lives, discipline and self-control, respect for others, love and freedom." Come join us in this study!

Single Parenting Class
The Well

• The wisdom of modeling their parenting after the way God parents us

• That there are no formulas for parenting success
• And much, much more!

LEAD

More than one million families have attended Financial Peace University with amazing results. On average, these families paid off $5,300 in debt and saved $2,700 in just the first 90 days! Each of the mandatory 13 lessons deal with a different topic that will change the way you think about personal finance. The weekly format is to watch a one hour video followed by an hour of small group discussion and application. Stop worrying about money, and start your journey to Financial Peace today.

Victory in Christ Workshop
(Peter Urdanick) Room 1610

How many of us all too often believe that the Apostle Paul's struggle in Romans 7: "I do the things I know I shouldn't, and can't seem to the things I should" is reflective of the 'normal' Christian Life? Such a view can often lead to a sense of disconnect from a relationship with God as one looks to live the 'abundant life' that Scripture promises only to find conflict and frustration in everyday life.
In this workshop, many biblical principles will be presented and discussed that will help the participant:
• Identify false beliefs that prevent Christians from understanding their identity in Christ
• Understand the power of indwelling sin and the nature of the flesh
• Recognize the reality of the believer's acceptance before God
• Learn about the healing power of forgiveness
• Walk in newness in life as never before through an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ

Come discover your true identity in Him. Through Him you can experience genuine freedom as He produces the Fruit of the Spirit in your complete relationship with Him!

LIVE

Evangelism Tool Box
(Facilitated by Pastor Gilmore) Room 1620

We all are called to share the gospel story, but sometimes we are worried to know what to say. This class will teach the participants 5 tools to use in evangelism. The goal of this class is to equip the participants with practical ways to expand the kingdom and connect others to our local body of Christ.

Sign Language
(Ed Crafter and Kelly Kuettner) Room 1614

We will focus on basic sign language skills, learning finger spelling, hand position, and the use of facial expressions, body language and gestures as important components of communication. We will also add more components of sign language communication, including questions and conversations among class members. In addition, aspects of Deaf culture and the history of sign language will be covered.
